Unrelatable me

I have gobs of wonderful friends. True story. I've been so incredibly blessed to have friends who are true blue, take-me-as-I-am friends for a very long time. With that being said.... I am also thankful for the blogging community. Even though my blog is almost 3 years old, I feel like I'm a rookie when it comes to blog knowledge. I've often thought, "No one understands how awesome [this or that or whatever...fill in the blank] is!" Whether it's clothing designers, name brands, thrifting, finding cool stuff, outfit design/culmination, etc.... when sharing these things with my friends, I feel like a big ole crazy woman. I get a blank stare. Mind you, most of my incredible friends try  to understand. They try  really hard. Some of them just listen.

My sweet husband is insanely, incredibly, mind-blowingly passionate about music. Here's an example:
Husband: "Do you hear how compressed those guitars are?"
Me: (straining to be a good wife and hear it) "No???"
Husband: "Really? You can't tell a difference between these guitars and these guitars?"
Me: (still trying really hard to hear it...) "No???"

Seriously, that man is the most beautiful person to me. Thankfully, he indulges me every time I go shopping. "Hey, show me the pretties you got. I wanna see those treasures!" What a great husband I have! He's so dear to my heart ...and just like I don't hear compressed guitars and "feel like I'm sitting on a rooftop at night" (He said that about a Flaming Lips song), he doesn't know who Tory Burch is and doesn't get excited to know that a boxy top needs to be paired with fitted pants. Don't get me wrong, he knows about t-strap shoes, ballet flats, and who Betsey Johnson is. He knows these things because he loves me.

 Photobucket
He loves me enough to tell me when there's lipstick on my teeth at the dance recital.

When I go thrifting, I take forever. I find treasures. I find gold. I love the hunt. Paying 49 cents for a shirt I love is something I get so excited about. Finding weird, kitschy mushroom cups and dainty teacups for rock-bottom prices gets my blood pumping. Asian men, who are probably Buddhas but I renamed "Happy Christians", ya'll get it. I feel like somewhere in the blogosphere there is a person who knows what I'm talkin' 'bout! When I feel like it's a little odd to be a Christian girl who saved herself for marriage, there's another Christian blogger who will give me an Amen! When I wanna have 5 pairs of black pants because they all have a different silhouette? Someone in the blog world doesn't think that's excessive. When I feel like I'm upset because someone is freakin' glued to their stupid phone and won't be present with who they're with.... ya'll know. When I get the urge to turn my house upside down with a re-decorating project, it's just fine because you've already done it. When I feel like a giganto truck because I love to eat rolls at Logan's Roadhouse, there's someone with a self-acceptance blog to make me realize, I'm pretty. When I'm the ONLY person I know my age who is crazy-in-love with Shabby Chic, there's a blogger out there who shares the love.

Happy Christians, Yes, they're converted... ;o)

What I'm trying to say is... Thank you. Thank you for being people who know. You make my world better. I feel a little less weird-girl. A little less unrelatable.

(Dear real life friends, don't be mad. I love you immensely. You took me for me before I had a blog and for that.....you're the BEST)

7 Questions

Seriously, the Seven questions is always so much fun. I feel like I really get to know other bloggers and it's fun for me because I like to talk about myself. (Yes, I realize that's fat headed. I'm my momma's only and my daddy's baby, so sue me!)

Two years ago, I was Pinocchio in my dance studio's ballet. Dancing with a long nose can be tricky. ;o) Lesson: Don't be a liar!
Photobucket

1. If you could be any princess- which would you be and why?
I've never wanted to be a princess. Closest I've come was before I met my husband, I always sang Snow White's "Someday My Prince Will Come".

I've also been known to say, "Alice in Wonderland should be made into an honorary princess. She's my favorite Disney girl anyway."

 Alice 2

2. Do you have any odd habits? (do things in order, words that you say too often, etc)
When eating french fries, I pick and choose the good ones. If they're too floppy, too brown, too salty,  etc. I won't eat them. I also mash my burgers & some sandwiches.

3. What's your "go to" outfit?
I really, really, REALLY like clothes. It's a little ridiculous. During the school year, I try to look professional. Black slacks or a black skirt tend to be easy. During the summer, I'm a jeans & t-shirt kind of gal. I'll always love a quirky t-shirt.

4. Do you have any siblings? What are their genders, ages, order of age, names, etc?
I have 3 half-siblings. I'm gonna pass on their ages. Partially because they're older than me and partially because I'm uncertain. Oldest sister, Karla, Middle sister, Rachele, Younger middle brother, Lance.

5. What's your favorite precious stone?
Diamonds are a girls best friend and pearls are my birthstone. I'm happy about both.

6. If you had a check in your hand for 1 million dollars, what would you do with it?
Pay off any debts, give $$$ to my church, find a way to make sure my husband has his own "room" to do anything with, something nice for my parents, and save the rest.

7. What do you love most about yourself- physically (eyes, smile, hair, etc. I don't know a good way to word that question...)
I have thick, long, straight hair that holds curl well if I decide to curl it. I kind of love it. :o)

Goodwill towards men...women...people!

I got in my Target Beauty Bag - It was F-R-E-E, so next time you see those things available. Snatch it up because the little bag alone is worth it. :o)

Photobucket

Goodwill shopping with my sweet friend, Baby Wolf at Goodwill. She wants to make some flag pants as featured here.
 Photobucket

This day I was having trouble finding my usual motivation. Usually, I have a basketful  to try on after a row.
Photobucket
btw, these skorty, shorties didn't work out for me. :o(
Okay, maybe I'm crazy but I have seen LOTS of solid colored bottoms in the fashion world lately. I'm also CHEAP so .... check out all the colorful pants!
Photobucket

I tried on several pairs of colorful shorts...

007-10
I really liked the color and fit of these shorts on me. Sadly, I left without them. They were 100% cotton and knowing how I kind of stink at laundry... I try to stay away from 100% cotton. Either way, they're cute, right?

 Photobucket
although these were cute...the color is just too shiny for summer shorts. They made me feel like a truck: a.k.a. wide load. No thanks, blue shorts. Not that I'm saying I'm large by any means. I am saying these were not my favorite. I have to like them and feel confident. These are a no-go.

These pretties... I keep. :o) $3.99
009-8
When I was trying them on, I made the button come off. Boo. Sewing skills come in handy when thrifting. At the very least, I can sew on a button. ;o)

Wanted. Badly. Wanted to rescue this pretty so someone could wear it! It features the currently stylish peplum style. Too small for me. I hung it back up but I wanted to capture it's pretty image for all the blog world to see. $5.99 style.
Photobucket

This is tied for my favorite purchase. $2.99
Photobucket

 Duckface because I can.
Photobucket
(I really like red and black together)

Besides Goodwill, we visited another store but I didn't document it as well. These are my beauties from there.

Photobucket
Left to Right
Purple & Black $.49
White & Black $2.99
Mauves Cardigan - Half off $3.99 - Final - 1.99

Lastly, my sweet momma and I went to Ross, Panera, and Target together. I love spending time with her because I like her. She's a beautiful momma and a sweet friend. We always have fun giggling and laughing together about life. She's so sweet to me. She blessed my life and heart with these purchases.

It was a full day of shopping. Full. In case you needed to know, those sandals are really cute and sure, they're flats. DON'T WEAR THEM FOR ALL-DAY-SHOPPING. Why? You ask....Because my feet hurt like a mug Saturday night. Superawful. I even took two Tylenol to numb the pain. Poor, dramatic me. ;o)

Anyway, you can have fun fashion for inexpensive prices. :o) Share your thoughts because I sure do love to read comments. :o)

Seven Questions Numero Dos

I'm linking up to Gentri Lee's 7 Questions Wednesday (Yes, I'm fully aware I'm a whole 2 days Tardy to the Party)

Funny photo: Middle Wolf and I get ridiculous in Target. I'm channeling my inner Ke$ha (maybe?).

Photobucket

1. What do you do when you're sick? (Do you act like a baby? Tough it out? Have any weird cravings? Cry?)
I'm the biggest baby ever. I want Cheetos and ice cream and someone to "fix it". I've been told that when I'm super duper legit sick, I turn into a bear and want people to leave me alone.

2. What do you do to find motivation when you feel you've lost it?
If it's to do with teaching and I've lost motivation, checking out other teacher blogs helps. That and Pinterest. If it's to do with cleaning, usually an episode or 2 of Hoarders does the trick. If it's to do with learning something new, it gets worse before it gets better. When it comes to motivations, it depends on what I need to be motivated to do.

3. Do you wish time away or do you savor every moment?
I go between extremes. I'm great at lounging and sitting around so I am probably a "wisher awayer". I've learned that when I'm "savoring the moments" I tend to pack my schedule and wear myself thin. I'm both. True story.

4. If you could be any mythological creature, what would you be, and why?
I'd be a Siren because they're beautiful, sneaky, and musical. I like the idea of being sneaky since I'm completely NOT in real life.

5. What is your current biggest weakness and are you working on fixing it?
I'm the world's worst about picking/chewing the skin around my cuticles, particularly on my thumbs. I fully realize that it's yucky. It's an anxious habit that I developed so long ago that I'm not sure when it started. I recently purchased a creme called Control It and I'm also trying to realize when I do it. Trying to find out what triggers this habit. Again, I realize it's strange, gross, not normal, etc. I'm sharing. With the internet. And people who know me in real life. Eek.

6. How do you greet someone when meeting them for the first time?
I'm a hand-shaker and big smiler. "Nice to meet you." Extremely rare but in some cases, I'll even hug someone.

7. How do you grocery shop? (Do you write up a list? Go in with no idea what you're looking for? Have meal plans? Bring your own shopping bags?)
Unfortunately, I use the list in my head or shop on a whim. Terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE idea. I'm still technically a newlywed and I NEED to learn to cook more things. That would help with the craptastic, non-existent list situation.
I'd love for you to play along.... so fun to read your answers!

Social Sunday

I'm linking up with Neely and Ashley for Sunday Social.

Sunday Social

Favorite movie of all time?
13 Going on 30 has a beautiful love story
 Photobucket

and I really like the original
Alice in Wonderland
 Photobucket

Favorite movie quote?
I'm not much of one for quoting movies but the following from Win a Date with Tad Hamilton gets me every time:

Photobucket

Pete: [to Tad] Like do you know she has six smiles? One when something really makes her laugh. One when she's making plans. One when she is laughing out of politeness. One when she is uncomfortable. One when she is making fun of herself. And one when... she's talking about her friends.

Rosalee: You have five smiles, Pete. One when you think someone's an idiot. One when you think someone's REALLY an idiot. One when you're singing to Barry White. One when you're getting all dressed up. And one when you're looking at me.

Best movie to watch for a girls night in?
Clueless. Definitely Clueless! Every time I watch that, I want to bring back knee-highs

Best breakup movie?
For me, a good 80s Brat Pack movie usually does the trick: Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo's Fire, The Pick-up Artist....etc. Thankfully, I never have to experience a breakup again. Yay for being married to my best friend!

Favorite celeb eye candy?
If they look similar to my supah hunky husband...then it's close enough. Think dark hair, scruffy facial hair, skinny, and kind of a 'bad boy' look.  Since I met Joe, all measurable "attractiveness" is held to the golden standard of my honey. They sorta have to resemble him in some way for me to remotely find them to be semi 'eye-candy'. Hope it explained that well enough. Let me wrap this section up by saying, Joe is the most handsome man on the face of the earth, in my humble, yet quite honest opinion. ;o)

Examples include:
Johnny Depp

Jack White
Keanu Reeves
Wayne Coyne

104
Old picture from back when husband man was my boyfriend man. :o) We went to an 80s prom.

Which movie stars closet would you want to raid?
So many fashionable famous ladies! Though they're not "movie stars", here's a list of some of my inspirations:
- Gwen Stefani
- Victoria Beckham
- Betsey Johnson
- Kandee Johnson
- and these ladies!

Happiest of all Happy Father's Day to my Dear Sweet Daddy! I love you so very, very much! Thanks for teaching me how to drive. Thanks for teaching me to love. Making memories and laughing together.... but most of all...Thanks for teaching me about Jesus. I love you!

Birthday Lady

I love having a birthday, I love getting to enjoy Earth & life longer, but the overall notion of adding a number, watching that digit roll up... bah humbug! I'm in denial. People think I'm crazy. "You're not old!", "Age is just a number.", "Having a birthday is better than the alternative of dying, right???" To that I say.....

DUH! I realize my ridiculous birthday antics of denying the larger number only makes it worse and is quite dramatic. Have you met me?!?! I AM THE EPITOME OF DRAMA! Now, don't get me wrong... I don't create 'drama'. I'm more of a theatrical drama kind of a gal. Anyway, Happy Birthday to me! (yesterday)

As a pre-Birthday present to myself, one of my best friends and I treated ourselves to pedicures.

Photobucket
Quite frankly, pedicures make me squirmy. I have a bit of a 'bubble' when it comes to extended physical contact. I'm exceedingly ticklish (don't use this against me!) and so a pedicure is generally not my idea of a good time. This was only my second one and.... I didn't hate it! :o) It was really nice and I may try to treat myself again sometime.

002-10
My sweet friend, Jaclyn a.k.a. "Barcalounger" or "Middle Wolf"

Then yesterday my daddy woke me up by banging loudly on the door. Scared the snot outta me, as I was sleeping in, as a Birthday Lady should!

Ooooooh! A present... FOR ME! Yes, I am an adult who gets Birthday presents from her parents. I'm spoiled. I am the baby. What of it?
 Photobucket

Hot ziggs! It's CANDY! nom nom nom! I do love a good candy fix. I often pester my husband, "Can I have some candy?" I often say to my teaching partner, "let's go get some candy." I get cravings for the sweet stuff. I should be set up for a week or two. ;o)
007-9

Lucky me! I also got sweet cards from my parents and in-laws with $$$. Wow! Way to make a girl feel loved. :o)

Husband and I enjoyed a matinee showing of Snow White and the Huntsman. Naturally, I loved it. I really truly did. I'd watch it again. I know Kristen Stewart gets a hard time for her acting and lack of facial emotion but she was perfect in that part. And Charlize Theron, dang! She makes it easy to hate her but she's dang gorgeous while doing it!

After a movie is the perfect time for a PHOTO SHOOT! I wore a cute outfit, of course. ;o)

All in all, it was a Very, Merry, "Un-Birthday" to me!

“And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

"How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog--it's here a little while, then it's gone." James 4:14 NLT

I am incredibly blessed far beyond what anyone deserves. I pray that my life glorifies Jesus and brings honor to God, my Heavenly Father. Thank you, Jesus, for more time on this Earth to tell about you. Help me to live in a way that's pleasing to you.

Cuppy Cakes

Every day is a cupcake kind of day... I saw a pink cake mix at Target and bought it on a whim: Pink Lemonade. Hmmm.... here's the scoop: It's like they trick your brain. You know what you bought but you see pink so you expect to taste a pink flavor: strawberry or cherry. But then when you bite into them you get a tart taste. Tricky.

 Photobucket

Overall, I like them but what girl in her right mind doesn't like cupcakes?! Especially a girl whose birthday is Thursday. :o)

This summer I've been bitten by the craft bug. I just can't stop! So... I had some canvases that needed to be used. Lucky niece of mine! She loves cupcakes and so... a project was hatched. I worked on it off and on this afternoon and evening.

Spray paint is dangerous...

If you know me for very long, you learn a few things:
1.) I'm cranky in the mornings.
2.) Don't wake me up before noon on Saturdays
3.) I wear weird stuff.
4.) I'm a lot like a kid, hence why I work well with those darlings.
5.) I'm a bit of an old soul when it comes to clothes & home decor. If was made before '83, it's for me! ;o)

While thrifting, recently, I found an embroidered wall hanging. I'm certain it was from the 1970's. I got it for like, a $1.25 and I was so excited! When I showed it to my friends, they responded flatly. They did not share my jubilation in this a-maze-ing find! I forget, most people don't like old, "dirty" stuff from thrift stores. I DO I DO I DO!

I never was a huge fan of the frame. It needed...something. I'm not sure what....

Before
Photobucket

During
Photobucket
When I was painting, my hubby kept coming to check on me. He kinda loves that I'm crafty. :o)

After
Photobucket

(Yeah, I kinda tend to lean on the "old lady" side of the spectrum when it comes to decor. I don't know who the little kid in that picture is. I saw it at an antique store and thought it was too cute to go home without it!)

Now that the frame is spray painted... it's better-ish. I kinda miss the musty, gritty, gold frame. Maybe the cream will grow on me? Either way, my craft bug has been temporarily satiated. Let me know what you think!

Photo a Day in June

June 1st begins the month-long celebration that is my birthday! Hooray!

Photobucket

I saw this at Fat Mum Slim's blog.

1. Morning
 Photobucket
Yesterday, my husband and I went with our in-laws to a place called Prairie Song. It's an old timey town a 78 year old man has been building as a hobby for the last 29 years. It's very cool and very authentic. He takes you on a tour and tells you all about each building, how it was built, how he acquired the stuff inside, etc. This sign was in the Barber/Doctor's building. Did you know doctors and barbers were the same guy about 100 years ago? If you ever get a chance to go.... it's worth the drive and time to go. We went in the 'morning' and considering I'd been up since 4:30 a.m. yesterday.... this was taken at about 10:15 in the morning, which is a time I deem far more acceptable than 4:30 ;o)

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our morning.

Have fun & as always get your fashion on!
