Shooooooot....joo know I'm leenkeeng up wit mah gurrrl Neely

Sportin' the 80s/90s "Claw Bang" aka "Satellite"

1. What do you miss most about being a kid?
Carefree life - I am happy with life right now - but there's nothing like the freedom of childhood.
IMG_0003
Being a kid and being dorky with a frisbee on my head....always making a fashion statement, right?

IMG_0001
Dance costumes clearly spurred my love of sequins...

I miss you, Uncle Carl

2. Did you have a nickname growing up? What was it?
My elementary friends and high school friends still call my Jana Banana. My grannaw (grandmother) called me Jinga and the Apple of her eye. My daddy still calls me doll.

3. What was your favorite thing to do at recess?
Early childhood years, playing in the dirt making castles and playing church with nasty, dirty popsicle sticks we found outside and playing Barbies at recess.

Middle school -we walked the track that was on the playground and played pogs.

4. What did you want to be when you grew up?
Haha - I was a weirdo - I wanted to be a country singer. I do not currently enjoy the country music.  I also wanted to be a children's book author and pediatrician. In hindsight, all my career leanings came to fruition with being a first grade teacher.

5. What was your favorite toy?
Oh mercy... I loved me some Polly Pockets. They were so much vastly light years better when we were kids. More choke-on-able but clearly better. Those big things they have now are NOT Polly Pockets. More like Polly Purses.

And of course....the ever popular, always timeless - Barbie! The important thing about Barbies was making them talk.

6. What is the funniest thing you did as a kid that your parents still remind you about?
Have you met me?! I'm a hoot and a half! I did/do all kinds of funny things! My mom still tells about my third birthday party. I've always been quite the gregarious individual. (Gregarious- fond of the company of others; sociable) Anyway, my parents told me I could invite who I wanted. So I spent the weeks leading up to my birthday inviting every person I knew.... and all 100 people showed up to the local McDonald's. Yep. I like people.

Payin' it Forward Crafty Style

I saw this fabu idea over at Nerd Craft Librarian.

Here is the deal:

The first three people to comment will get some sort of handmade (by me) awesomeness.

Wanna see some examples of what I do?

However this is contingent on you following the rest of the rules!
  • My goal is to have your hand made gift sent out before the end of the year
  • The Catch: In order to be eligible for a gift, you need to spread the love on your own blog, and (you guessed it) Pay it Forward! You yourself have to make something special for the first three people to comment on your pay it forward post.
  • The first three commenters have 72 hours to post on their blog
  • If the first three comments are made, still comment (you never know what can happen!)
  • Commenters: please leave your email address and your blog URL

So if you want something from moi, and you think you can handle making something for three of your blog readers, then leave a comment below!

Good luck !

Questions of Seven

The funny picture everyone's been waiting for.... me and Baby Wolf. I miss you, Baby Wolf. I'm glad you're happy where you are.

1. Describe your perfect day.
Gosh- - - Sleep until I wake up naturally, eat biscuits with butter, go thrifting with my husband, eat lunch somewhere yummy, come home and lounge around the house. Watch some Dr. Who (Doctor number 10- David Tennant, naturally!) All while wearing something cute, of course!

2.What was something that you were afraid of as a child?
I'm still not convinced that chicken will not peck at my toes when they're outside of the blankets at night. I got flogged by a rooster at three years old and have been leery ever since. There's a reason I never feel bad about eating chicken.

3. What's something you're afraid of today?
Hello! Didn't you hear me about those chickens?! Okay.... I'm a still a little terrified of the dark. I want  need to be able to see. Actual fears and worries aren't the same. If I went into to worries I could rattle off a list.... but mostly, being a failure in one way or another: a failure at teaching, being a crappy wife, a stinky parent, a bad friend...ya know, failure.

4. Would you rather be obsessed with yourself or someone else?
I'm an only child. I'm already pretty obsessed with myself. Do you see the massive amount of photos of me on here? What is a personal blog but self obsession. Let's be honest, folks. I'm awesome. And aren't we all a little obsessed with ourselves?

5. What is a favorite restaurant that you could visit over and over and never get sick of?
La Margarita. I could eat chips and salsa until I was as fat as a hog. Their chips and salsa is the BOMB! So much better than any chain restaurant. Seriously.... soooooooo good!

6. What is one food you used to hate but now enjoy?
So many foods could be added to the list. Our family's traditional cranberry goop used to scare me but it's delicious! I made some good chicken noodle soup the other day. I used to only eat that with Cheetos in it. I like lasagna. I like pasta salad. I'm still not keen on Asian food though.... perhaps another decade I will enjoy it?

7. Fill in the blank: Star ________.
light, star bright, first star I see tonight. I wish I may, I wish I might have this wish I wish tonight.

Ummmm....the Tooth Fairy?

Maybe I'm crazy.... maybe it's because I have kids come wiggle their teeth at me off and on all day....maybe it's mostly that I'm dimented crazy....

but don't these candies look like bloody white teeth?
100_1280
Disgusting. Gross. They were Caramel Apple Candy Corns. Maybe I could play a trick on the Tooth Fairy? Honestly, I don't blame you if you never come visit my blog again. Please come visit my blog again???Please don't actually leave.... I really like my blog friends. I'm just being dramatic.

Okay but I DID get some pictures taken today...'cause I liked my outfit.

Ya' Win Some Ya' Lose Some...OOTD

I've learned that in first grade, you win some and you lose some. Here are a couple of things I heard today....
  • "I like Mrs. [me] but I don't like her classroom."
  • "Daniel thinks your hair is too long Mrs. [me]."
  •  When asked what he remembered about class today,...." I remember centers." Me: What about centers? "I remember computers." Me: Okay....what about computers? "Um.... they were fun?" Yep. Centers obviously were successful for that little dude today. (Happy ending, he did remember the plot to the story we read today.)

At least I felt cute today.... right?

Sunday Social

Linking up with Neely and Ashley for Sunday Social

This Weeks Questions:

1. What is something you have wanted to do but are afraid of?
I'm not actually adventureous.... so it definitely wouldn't be a daring feat like jumping from a plane or something. Maybe something like find a lipstick that works for me. Or signing up for a month-to-month commitment with something like Birchbox or sponsoring someone's blog. Ooooh....or visiting another country. It's not an irrational fear. It's more of a financial concern/fear. I don't really have a brilliant answer for this.

2. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Being married to hubbalicious, of course. Quite possibly with our first and only little bundle of joy and maybe in a different, slightly larger home.

IMG_9723_zpsfb02eead

3. What are you looking forward to before the end of 2012?
I'm looking forward to Fall Break, Fall clothing, watching my firsties grow & learn, Halloween, decorating the spookhouse and scaring the crap outta people, working on growing my blog friends, watching Fall tv shows, and Christmas.

4. What are your hopes for your blog?
I enjoy sharing things that interest me. It makes me happy to actually have people read it! I hope it keeps growing and I hope I stay consistent in posting. (seems like the longer the school year goes the trickier it becomes...) I want to stay friends with the bloggy friend I've already made and I want to make MORE bloggy friends. Biggest hope & dream for this lil' blog is to reach 100 followers by the end of 2012.

5. Do you always see yourself living in your current town/city?
Haha.... if you'd asked me 8 years ago the answer would have been, "NO! I'm getting the heck out of here!" But I really love my hometown. I like the familiarity of my hometown. I like the proximity to our families. If you ask my husband - he wants to pack up and move to England. As much as I love all things British, that sounds terrifying. We'll see....

6. What is your morning routine?
7:15 ish - smack snooze on the alarm
7:20 ish - roll out of bed go to the restroom
7:25- check my facebook and email to see if I got new comments and take my daily meds (have to take them 30 minutes before I eat)
7:30 - pick out clothes and slowly get ready
8:10- out the door to be at work by 8:15
(I'm a nighttime shower person. That extra bit of sleep in the a.m. is just too valuable. Mornings are definitely NOT my strong point.)

7 Questions

Starting with a "funny picture":
100_1227
*Le sigh * Really? Really...? REALLY?! Why is there a teacher nutcracker? Maybe I'm crazy, but I do NOT want a teacher nutcracker. I love Target. I think they're kind of brilliant most of the time.... but this teacher nutcracker is utter and complete ridiculousness.

Moving on.....
1. Do you ever have reoccurring dreams?
Not so much reoccuring dreams but reoccuring locations. My favorite dreams always have vintage clothes or shopping. There's a certain shopping mall I've dreamt about since I was about 12. It's always a bummer to wake from those dreams.

When I'm really stressed out there's a certain person from my past who shows up. Hate those dreams. If that person shows up in my dreams I know I'm super stressed.

2. It's the first day of Fall (or Spring for you southern hemispherers) in a few days, what are you looking forward to most?
Halloweeeeeeeeeeen! Dressing up! Layering my clothing. Those simple things.

3. Because a lack of coordination, would you rather not be able to tie your shoes or cut your own food?
I HAVE to cut my own food. At least I could wear shoes without tying laces. If I couldn't cut my own food I'd resort to cavewoman tactics to eat. That's not ladylike.

4. Would you rather live in a house made entirely of glass or a house with no windows?
So long as could spend some time outside- I wouldn't care if my house had no windows. I need that vitamin D. Let's go with a house with no windows.

5. Would you rather walk on you toes or heels forever?
I'd rather walk on my toes. Walking on your heels is so much harder to do. Plus - growing up a dancer - toes makes so much more sense.

6. What's your favorite sense? (you have 5 btw)
Wow- it's hard to choose- I sure like taste because I love to eat. I love smell because I have strong memories associated with smells. My FAVORITE is sight though. I like to see all the pretty things there are to see. I enjoy clothing. I enjoy colors. I enjoy people watching. Yep. Gotta go with sight.

7. What's your favorite movie quote of all time?
I asked hubbalicious if I had a favorite quote and he says the only one he's heard my say is, "Nobody puts baby in the corner." Which is weird because I don't really like Dirty Dancing that much. I like to pretend I'm gonna be "thirty, flirty, & thriving" like in 13 Going on 30. Truth be told, I don't quote movies often. How about something from Clueless: "As if"

Confession: I wore yoga pants to teach on Tuesday

Sooooo..... as you well know I like clothes. Like- kinda ridiculously.... I'm a crafty person. I'm an artistic person. It's been said  I "wear my art". Sometimes I can get a little too wrapped up in the outer appearances though. Today I took a cue  from a fellow bloggy lady and wore yoga pants to work (judge me if you want, but I was SUPERcomfy all day).....only my teaching partner knew. (I just ruined my own secret..... *shoot*)

I wore minimal makeup. Comfy shoes. Threw my hair in a ponytail.... and called it good.

"And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin [...]" Matthew 6:28

"But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious."1 Peter 3:4

Okay so...teachers...and mommies might want to stay tuned...
(as these chairs are useful and practical)
On Pinterest you can find a plethora of wonders.
I saw these milk crate chairs and knew I had to make my own.

The white padding was an eggshell crate to give cushion for beds but we cut it up into sections to fit our crate chairs and saved bookoos of moolah!\

The finished product....

We use these chairs daily. I'm a big fan. I luckily got the crates donated by a local grocery store. If you call and ask real sweetly, then finish up with, "I'm a teacher" they'll probably pity you enough to help you out. ;o)

The plywood was graciously donated by my sweet in-laws. The labor was put in by my father-in-law, mother-in-law, and hubbalicious husband. 'Cause errrbody knows I got NO business with a staple gun! Okay- actually - it's just that I'm such a sissy.  Thankful, thankful, THANKFUL! Plus, my little people like to sit in these chairs. And they're pretty comfy!

Mailbox Monday - eBay edition

Have you ever seen something on Pinterest and known you must have it asap??? I sure have.

Something about me - I had a semi-rebellious phase at 19 and got my belly button pierced. If you know me even a smidge of an ounce - you'll know I'm NOT the kind of gal that flaunts her belly. Not gonna happen. Plus- the males in my life would have a lawl-eyed conniption if I went around exposed like this.

Either way - the moment I saw this cute belly button, dream catcher, I had to have it!  Had to have it yesterday! So.... the ebay hunter that I am, I went straight to my favorite source for deals...

Look what came today!!!

Lots of different dreamcatchers to choose from..... I'm a happy camper.

Plus-my motto of "modest is hottest" still remains....so don't expect to see the dream catcher modeled by yours truly. ;o)
